These days, around Niverville, there’s more than just movies being filmed. Thanks to Trevor Lux of The World on Loan, the town is also serving as a backdrop for music videos.

A travelling music series that showcases homegrown talent is gearing up to return to the RM of Ritchot this summer.

The drama team at Niverville High School are nearly ready to raise the curtain on this year’s musical production of Matilda by Roald Dahl. Three performances will take place at the school on April 30, May 1, and May 2 under the guidance of Janelle Malech, the school’s drama instructor.

On Friday, March 28, the new 25,000-square-foot film soundstage located on the corner of Highway 311 and Wallace Road was alight with activity.

The event? None other than the studio’s much anticipated grand opening of Jette Studios.

Jen Normand of New Bothwell is a country girl at heart, and nowhere is this more in evidence than her passion for nature photography. She may not pursue this passion full-time—after all, she has only been doing this for the past few years and it doesn’t quite manage to pay the bills—but that doesn’t stop her from scrounging for every spare minute to spend outdoors. That’s where all the wildlife is, and it’s where her passion finds its truest expression.

“I walked up to the front door and rang the bell. As I stood there, I felt apprehensive. What would he say or do? How would he react to my impromptu presence? Would he scowl, swear, even close the door in may face? It was the moment of truth. He opened the door and in his first glance I read apprehension. But then he must have spotted the pizza box in my hands, held out in front like a peace offering.”
