It’s been more than a year since the announcement broke that a film studio was destined for Niverville. On Monday, June 10, that reality took a giant leap forward.

Randy Bechard, a resident of Otterburne, owns a home with his family of four on College Crescent, located on the Providence University College campus. Bechard has worked here for the past two years as the college’s maintenance technician.

Less than 48 hours since RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) began their manhunt for potentially armed suspects driving a stolen vehicle, one person is now deceased, two have gone free, and one is facing charges while in custody.

According to the RCMP, one adult male is dead, one female is in custody, and another male has been apprehended in Saskatchewan after an extensive pursuit. This follows a major incident in Niverville this morning. The deceased male was shot by police at approximately 3:00 a.m.

On Saturday, June 1, a small contingent of historians and history enthusiasts gathered at the Mennonite Memorial Landing site, located at the confluence of the Red and Rat Rivers. They were there to celebrate the official grand opening of the Peace Trail.
