In just two weeks, players from across the country will converge in Niverville for the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship. The four-day tournament from March 11–14 is being hosted at the CRRC by Providence University College.
“Fans will see very high-calibre volleyball at the women’s college level,” says Terry Martin of the planning committee. “Some of these players will rival the U-Sports players. They are very high-level players.”
Eight teams are registered for the championship from the Maritimes, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. Manitoba has two teams entered, including the Providence Pilots.
The second Manitoba team will be determined at the completion of the Women’s Volleyball provincials being held in Brandon from February 27 to March 1. On the same weekend, the men’s volleyball provincials will take place at the CRRC.
For Providence, 2026 will mark their second year hosting volleyball nationals. Last year the college hosted the men’s volleyball nationals in Niverville.
“Providence has an agreement with the Town of Niverville that all of their home games for basketball, volleyball, and futsal are played here at the CRRC,” Martin says. “So, naturally, when Providence hosts this tournament, that’s where it will be.”
Martin sat on the planning committee for men’s nationals as well and says its execution was impressive considering it was a first for both the college and the CRRC staff.
“Last year, [the planning committee] had a whole lot of good comments about it, from officials to the CCAA convenor. It was quite a success. So we hope to repeat that success this year with the women’s.”
This year marks the first time that the women’s CCAA nationals will be held in Manitoba.
“It’s a single knockout tournament, so the winners keep progressing and the losers move towards consolation.”
