This summer, professional paddler Lesley Gaudry of St. Adolphe connected with Madison Eklund, a 26-year-old kayaker making a long and ambitious trek from Fort Snelling, Minnesota to York Factory, Manitoba via the Red River. Eklund is believed to the first person to complete such a trek alone, at least in modern times.

The Niverville Nighthawks had their four-game win streak snapped on Friday night when they fell 6–2 to the Portage Terriers on the road at Stride Place. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a 12–10–1 record.

The Providence University College athletics department has had a busy and exciting last two weeks. The women’s soccer team ended their season with a 2–0 win against Great Lakes Christian College, netting them the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship.

It was a very forgettable encounter on Sunday evening as the Niverville Nighthawks fell 5–2 to the Winkler Flyers. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 15–13–2.

On Friday night at the CRRC, the Niverville Nighthawks captured their third straight game when they defeated the Selkirk Steelers by a 4–3 score. With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 11–9–1 on the season, further securing their hold on fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division.

It’s no fluke that the Niverville Nighthawks are firmly in the playoff race in their inaugural season. Not only have the players on the club been heavily scouted over the past year and a half, but they’ve also been slotted in to play specific roles on the team.
