April 12, 2019 will go down as a monumental day in Niverville’s history. On this day, ministers and leaders from all levels of government made an appearance at the Niverville Arena in order to make formal announcements regarding their investment to the people of the community and the surrounding area.

About a hundred people gathered at the Niverville Arena on the morning of Friday, April 12 to witness a day many years in the making. After a long period of behind-the-scenes work by all levels of government, the news is now official: the Community Resource Centre in Niverville is happening.

On April 10, Provencher MP Ted Falk met with American officials in Washington D.C. to discuss the hours of operation of several Minnesota border crossings. About a year and a half ago, in late 2017, these ports of entry began closing earlier than their Canadian counterparts.

On the afternoon of April 8, RCMP officers were dispatched to Niverville Collegiate for the second time in just over a year due to social media threats made against the school. The Hanover School Division (HSD) was quick to respond by notifying the RCMP and immediately putting the school under a hold-and-secure protocol. 

It’s that time of year again, and for the second year in a row the Jets have qualified for the playoffs. As the snow melts outside Bell MTS Centre, the whiteout roars to life inside.

Due to favourable weather conditions over the past few weeks, this year’s spring flooding forecast along the Red River has been downgraded. Last month, the flood looked likely to match the flood of 2009, which had been the most severe since 1997. However, new information from the Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre is indicating a crest two to three feet lower than the lesser flood of 2011.

The Niverville Nighthawks have made it three wins in a row after a crucial 5–3 victory over the Winnipeg Blues on the road on Friday night. With the win, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 26–22–4.

The older a person gets, the harder it is to break out of established patterns and follow their dreams. Young people, though, often have the opportunity to pursue those dreams before the pressures of life bear down on them. Niverville Collegiate was on lockdown for a period of time Monday afternoon after a social media threat. According to the RCMP, a suspect is in custody. This suspect was apprehended within a very short time of the threat being made.
