It’s been exactly 150 years since the first wave of Mennonites arrived in Manitoba back in 1874. Over the course of the next few years, around 7,000 of these people of faith left imperial Russia on the promise of religious freedom and military exemption overseas.

The Municipality of Ritchot is celebrating their communities through their second annual Neighbour Day on Saturday, September 29.

Two months ago, Ritchot’s council launched a new app to help keep residents up to speed about what’s happening in local government.

Children in Niverville now have less distance to travel to participate in sport programs thanks to Activate Sports, a Winnipeg-based company which is making a move into rural parts of the province.

There are few competitions as esteemed by handgun enthusiasts as the International Practice Shooting Club’s (IPSC) nationals. This year’s nationals were held in Selkirk, Manitoba, and Niverville’s Paul Richards came out on top in his handgun classification.

The Niverville Nighthawks led for most of the game but found a way to fall 5–4 in overtime to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Saturday night on the road. With their fourth straight loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 22–17–3.

With so many young families making the move to Niverville, the need for playgroups and a place for parents to connect with each other has grown. This past spring, one local mom stepped up to fill that void, creating Niverville Happy Kidz Stay & Play.

If you’re looking to incite passion among dog lovers, propose a dog-breeding operation in southeast Manitoba. That, at least, is what’s taken place on numerous occasions in our local municipalities over the past few years, the RM of Ritchot being among the most recent.

A group of senior citizens in St. Adolphe have proven that many hands do in fact make light work, spending their summers upgrading Pioneer Hall. 

On the morning of Tuesday, September 4, Niverville’s town council voted unanimously to purchase a new municipal building at 329 Bronstone Drive, the former location of Horizon Livestock & Poultry Supply. In making the decision council considered several letters of support it received from residents, including one from the Chamber of Commerce.
