For the second year in a row, the Niverville Heritage Centre will play host to a New Year’s Eve party for the community. The event will take place in the full ballroom, which can hold up to 400 people. All that space will likely be needed, since last year’s inaugural party had 359 attendees.

The Niverville Nighthawks gave the home crowd a real treat on Wednesday evening at the CRRC with a massive 6–2 victory over the Portage Terriers, one the league top-ranked teams.

Heading into draft weekend, there was little to no knowledge of what Jets General Manager planned. After surging up the standings and finishing second in the NHL’s regular season with a total of 114 points, there wasn’t much Kevin Chevaldayoff could do to improve the product he already had on the ice. It was also expected that the Jets would be hard-pressed by the salary cap. Without a first round draft pick, it seemed plausible that they might try and move a player in order to acquire one. 

According to Niverville’s town council, the community’s water problems are finally a thing of the past.

The Niverville Nighthawks failed to muster any offence again on Friday evening at the CRRC, dropping their third game in a row with a 3–1 loss to the Selkirk Steelers. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 22–17–2.

Mayors Myron Dyck of Niverville and Chris Ewen of Ritchot have both filed their papers this month to run for re-election. The upcoming municipal election is scheduled for Wednesday, October 24.

There’s a unique new support group in town, and on May 9 they held their first meet-up. A collection of medical cannabis users, the NV Support Group, gathered around one member’s kitchen for a hands-on workshop on cannabis-infused butter—or cannabutter, as it’s known in the cannabis community.

The RM of Ritchot is almost ready to cut the ribbon on a brand-new fire hall. The hall, currently under construction in Ste. Agathe, will be the municipality’s third fire hall. The others are situated in Île-des-Chênes and St. Adolphe. The new hall is expected to be operational sometime in July.

The Niverville Chamber of Commerce has installed a new president. John Magri, who has served for one term as Vice-President, was named President at a Chamber meeting in May.
