Niverville’s town council met for their regularly scheduled meeting at the Community Resource and Recreation Centre on the evening of October 19. The meeting was also streamed via Microsoft Teams. However, there were technical issues this week, so a few moments of the meeting were cut off for those attempting to participate online.

Local Athlete Wins at Special Olympics

Niverville resident Terrylinn Johnson won four medals in speedskating at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games held in Calgary on February 27–March 2. This is only the latest of Johnson’s accomplishments in her long history of competitive athletics, spanning back to the 1990s.

The Cart and the Cairn: Re-Enacting the Arrival of the Mennonites

A re-enactment of the 1870s Mennonite arrival in Manitoba took place on the morning of October 8. For the occasion, Terry Doerksen of Winnipeg hitched up his 18-month-old ox to a replica Red River cart at the Mennonite Landing site, located southwest of Niverville where the Rat River flows into the Red.
