The pandemic restrictions of the last few weeks has changed the way our local municipalities are doing business. With the Town of Niverville and the RM of Ritchot are both operating with some new code red protocols, it’s important to understand how we can still engage with them.

Although people everywhere are becoming weary of new and updated provincial health orders every week, once again the province has announced tightened restrictions. Premier Brian Pallister and Dr. Brent Roussin, the chief provincial health officer, appeared at a press conference Thursday afternoon to announce the latest measures.

Niverville’s council met on the evening of Tuesday, November 17 to discuss a variety of items on the town’s agenda. Chris Wiebe’s absence was excused due to illness.

On November 9, Open Health Niverville announced that Dr. Mairi Burnett will resume her medical practice at the clinic at the end of November after a medical leave of absence.

On Tuesday, November 17, Premier Brian Pallister announced that more enforcement of public health orders is on the way. The province has signed a contract with G4S Canada to expand the number of enforcement officers available across Manitoba.

So many local makers and sellers have lost business this year, with community craft sales and markers needing to be called off due to the pandemic. To combat this trend and keep our small-town crafters and businesspeople above water, a group of community advocates in Landmark are doing something to help.

Due to an enthusiastic response from Manitobans to the provincial home and business security rebate, the NDP government is expanding its funding of the initiative this summer.

The airspace over Hespeler Park brought some big thrills for kids enrolled in this year’s adventure camp, hosted by Niverville Recreation. On Tuesday, August 20, a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CC-130H Hercules circled the sky over the park, dropping a team of six parachuters of the 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, based out of 17 Wing Winnipeg.

On the morning of Tuesday, November 10, many locals noticed emergency vehicles attending to a location in the area around Leclaire Road, near its intersection with Highway 200, in the RM of Ritchot.

A new commercial strip mall is about to begin construction in Niverville. The property at 41 Main Street, which is currently home to BSI Insurance, will be getting a major facelift as well as a significant expansion.
