Believe it or not, the season for Christmas shopping is upon us once more. Taking part in neighbourhood events, craft sales, and markets is a great way to spread the joy and generosity of the season in our local communities. When you purchase your gifts at local sales, you end up giving two gifts—one to the person on your mind and another to the vendor you purchase from.

Remembrance Day 2019 in Niverville will be commemorated with a ceremony at the Heritage Centre, beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. As in previous years, the ceremony will be followed by a light lunch open to all those in attendance.

As of November 1, the Hanover School Division (HSD) will welcome its newest staff member, Marlin Adrian. Adrian has been appointed to the position of assistant superintendent, replacing outgoing Colin Campbell.

As of Monday, September 23, an excavation is underway at 420 Main Street in St. Adolphe. The excavation is part of an investigation being carried out by the Historic Research Branch, headed by Suyoko Tsukamoto, an impact assessment archaeologist with the provincial government. It follows on the heels of reports that at least one unmarked children’s grave lies beneath the site, and possibly dozens more.

On September 25, the provincial government gave the gas tax freeze another bump down the road. According to Premier Wab Kinew, Manitobans can expect to keep saving at the pumps until December 30 of this year.

On Thursday, December 12, MLA Ron Schuler announced a series of grants to help the local communities augment and improve their parks and greenspaces. The total investment by the provincial government equals $220,000, made possible through the Building Sustainable Communities Program.

The strip mall along Meadowlark Boulevard in Île-des-Chênes has a new business, Shoni Cree’s, a small family gift shop that specializes in Indigenous giftware.

The Niverville Nighthawks will enter the MJHL playoffs as massive underdogs in their first-round series against the top-seed Steinbach Pistons.

On November 14, MLA Ron Schuler, Minister of Infrastructure, toured the ring dike around Niverville and took the opportunity to announce the addition of an important structure to the town’s current flood control infrastructure. Also in attendance for the announcement were Niverville’s deputy mayor John Funk and a number of provincial employees.

Two Clippers Novice teams recently got a taste of the big leagues, when on Sunday, November 3 the Clippers Novice B and C Blue teams faced off against each other under the bright lights of Bell MTS Place in downtown Winnipeg, as part of the Manitoba Hydro Big Ice Challenge.
