Our regional health authority, Southern Health-Santé Sud, has a message for everyone in southeastern Manitoba as we head into the Easter long weekend.
“Easter is an important time in the lives of many people in our region who celebrate by attending church services and gathering as families,” they say in a statement. “In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we urge you to celebrate differently this year.”
According to a provincial public order, Manitobans are instructed to stay home if at all possible—and this includes staying away from family gatherings.
“While many families typically get together for Easter or Passover celebrations, people should not let their guard down by gathering this year,” the statement says. “We all have an important role to play to reduce the health risks by staying at home, not gathering in groups, and maintaining social distancing of two metres or more. Rather, this Easter, let us challenge each other to find innovative ways to connect virtually.”
The health authority wants to remind people that healthcare workers are in a struggle at the front line of this pandemic. They are working hard, doing their best in the midst of challenging circumstances, and need the rest of us to do our part.
