Niverville’s council held a brief meeting on Tuesday, October 22 to cover a short list of agenda items. Mayor Myron Dyck was not in attendance.

The first item on the agenda was a conditional use application by Subfusion Inc, also known as Fusion Industries. Proprietor Leon Desmarais indicated to council his intent to create a parking lot on one of his four lots within the business park. This parking lot will include a throughway from Schantz Road to Schultz Avenue in order to provide a greater level of safety for semitrucks exiting his property. As well, a number of existing Quonsets on the property will be moved to a new location on his ten-acre space.

CAO Eric King recommended that council include a condition for a development agreement on all four lots at this time in order to provide Desmarais the flexibility to expand or build on the other lots without further conditional use applications, assuming his intended use remains the same. Council also indicated to Desmarais that a fence requirement may be a part of that development agreement.

Council voted unanimously in favour of the application.

Councillor John Funk then provided a brief report to council regarding some time he’d spent with the Grade Four class at Niverville Elementary School this past week discussing the political process through interactive role play.

A sand-hauling tender for the 2019–2020 winter season has been awarded to Barkman Cartage for an undisclosed hourly rate. The company will deliver sand as needed throughout the winter months. Barkman Cartage was among three companies to provide quotes to council.

Finally, some discussion was given to the stalled asphalt work which was scheduled for completion this fall on a half-mile of Sixth Avenue South. According to King, the tendered company requires one full week without rain to finish what they’ve begun—and weather conditions haven’t cooperated. Council is awaiting information from the paving company as to whether further work will need to be postponed until spring.
