Niverville’s Service to Seniors is hosting their annual craft and bake sale at the Golden Friendship Centre on Saturday, November 24. This indoor event will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and will include local favourites like The Perogy Lady and Avon, as well as many homemade crafts and baked goodies. The event has been running for about ten years and helps keep the cost of special events down for the seniors in the community.

“The sale of the tables goes to our program,” says Community Resource Coordinator Justina Penner. “This gives me a little extra for when we want to do social things so that the seniors costs stay at a minimum. I charge the seniors $5 to $10 a trip depending on where we go, [but] this small fee does not cover the cost of gas and mileage most of the time, so that’s where I then draw from [the sale proceeds].”

Started as a way to give seniors the opportunity to shop for their Christmas baking and small gifts in their own community, the sale has helped cover the cost of trips to Folklorama, Pineridge Hollow, and picnics in the park.

“Service to Seniors is here to coordinate resources to seniors,” Penner says. “It can be anything from rides to medical appointments, running errands, helping them find the help they need with cleaning, [and] yard work. We also install and monitor Lifeline, friendly visits, and meal deliveries when requested.”
