UPDATE: The boil water advisory was lifted at 2:49 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19. The municipality reports that their bacteriological test results meet regulatory standards and that there is no need for residents to flush their lines.

The RM of Ritchot has issued a boil water advisory for its residents. The advisory will go into effect on Monday, June 17 at 9:00 a.m. and remain in place until the water supply is deemed safe.

“Scheduled upgrades to the water treatment plant in Ritchot will lead to conditions which can compromise the safety of the water supply,” reads the notice from the municipal office.

The notice adds that water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it is used for drinking and ice-making, preparing beverages (including infant formula), preparing food (including washing fruits and vegetables), and brushing teeth.

“It is not necessary to boil tap water used for other household purposes, such as laundry or washing dishes,” the notice continues. “Adults and older children that are able to avoid swallowing the water can wash, bathe, or shower. Young children should be sponge bathed. If boiling is not practical, an alternate and safe supply of water should be used for consumptive purposes.”

Boil water advisories are issued to ensure the protection of public health. The RM encourages residents with questions to visit their website for further information. Below are links to three fact sheets which answer frequently asked questions.
