As the Manitoba Youth Job Centre in Niverville enters its fourth month of the summer, activities are gradually winding down.
Rebekah Stevenson, who served as this year’s youth engagement leader, says there were many highlights from the centre’s operating season.
“The two most successful events were the New Bothwell Cheese fundraiser and the Taco in a Bag Sale,” Stevenson says. “Both events provided students with an opportunity to gain work experience while interacting with customers and earning a little income.”
Steven also wishes to extend a thank you to her sponsoring committee and the town office, who she says have been very supportive of the MYJC program.
“As well, many thanks are due to the numerous employers, both businesses and homeowners, who have placed job orders with the centre this summer,” she adds. “Your participation in the job referral service provides youth and students in our community with the opportunity to gain work experience and an income.”
Stevenson also acknowledges all the volunteers who have helped out at this summer’s events. She emphasizes that the program depends on the partnership of community members.
“Last but not least, a huge thank you goes out to the students and youth who registered with the centre,” she adds. “We hope that your job search continues to be successful!”
The office will officially close for the season on Friday, August 16 and will reopen next May. Stevenson advises students and businesses that if they have any final questions about the centre and its serve, they should call soon.
