Niverville residents have voted yes to retail cannabis in a highly contested plebiscite held on Tuesday, November 26.

Politically speaking, the fall has been a busy one—especially for Niverville residents, who are going back to the polls on Tuesday, November 26 for the third time in three months. This time, they’ll be casting their vote on a municipal concern: should cannabis retail be allowed in the community?

Two Niverville high school students say they were shut down by the school’s administration on the day they were given permission to hold a peaceful protest. Two weeks later, they were offered an apology—and an explanation. 

On Saturday, November 16, the owners and operators of Ritchot’s many businesses gathered at the annual Ritchot Chamber of Commerce 2019 Business Awards and Event Gala at the TC Energy Centre in Île-des-Chênes. More than 35 local businesses were represented at the gala, with more than one-third of them being sponsors of the evening itself.

On November 14, MLA Ron Schuler, Minister of Infrastructure, toured the ring dike around Niverville and took the opportunity to announce the addition of an important structure to the town’s current flood control infrastructure. Also in attendance for the announcement were Niverville’s deputy mayor John Funk and a number of provincial employees.

In October 2019, the Niverville MCC Thrift Shop donated $14,500 to local charities and projects that enrich the lives of citizens in and around Niverville.
