For the second time in eight days, the Niverville Nighthawks travelled to Dauphin to face the Kings—and for the second time, the Nighthawks came out with a win.

It may still be January, but the Niverville Nighthawks have already become the first team in the MJHL to clinch a postseason berth. A dominant road win over the Winnipeg Blues on Friday night improved Niverville to a perfect 5–0 against the Blues this season and extended the Nighthawks’ winning streak to 13 games.

If the first two meetings of the season were any indication, Tuesday night’s third showdown between the Niverville Nighthawks and Portage Terriers was destined to be tight. Through the first 50 minutes, it lived up to the billing.

Manitoba’s junior speedskating competitors shone once again at the annual Canadian Long Track Championships in Quebec City from January 8–10. All five youth members of the local Eastman Speed Skating Club ranked high enough to qualify and represent Manitoba—and between them, they brought home an impressive number of medals.

After a five-day layoff, the Niverville Nighthawks showed no signs of rust Tuesday afternoon in Winnipeg, erupting for six third-period goals to defeat the Winnipeg Blues 8–2. The contest marked the beginning of a challenging stretch for Niverville, who will play seven straight games away from the CRRC.

A sold-out crowd of elementary school students packed the CRRC on Thursday afternoon for School Day hockey. Although goals were at a premium, the Niverville Nighthawks delivered another strong performance, defeating the Selkirk Steelers 4–2.
