At the beginning of April, Scorpion Elite Cheer (SEC), featuring athletes from across southeast Manitoba, appeared at national competitions in Niagara Falls.

The third annual Community Resource Centre fundraising gala is quickly approaching, with ticket sales ending —Monday, April 29.

On April 17, the RM of Ritchot’s council held a public meeting. Three variation requests were heard, each asking for variances on new build distances from property boundaries. Council approved each one by acclamation. The properties were located in St. Adolphe, Grande Pointe, and along Leblanc Road.

This spring’s annual Garden and Outdoor Living Show, held at the Niverville Heritage Centre on April 13, was a resounding success. The event is a fundraising initiative of the Enhanced Garden Committee, a group dedicated to the ongoing beautification of the Heritage Gardens located on the west side of the Heritage Centre.

Niverville’s town council met on April 16 for a regularly scheduled public meeting, with all members of council in attendance.

The Niverville Nighthawks came back down to earth on Saturday evening on the road with a 5–1 loss to the first-place Steinbach Pistons. With the loss, the Nighthawks stay in fourth place in the MJHL’s East Division with a record of 26–23–4.

Pete and Rose Friesen of Country Snacks and Red River Co-op are excited for the big changes coming to their Main Street business over the coming weeks. The changes will include a substantially larger gas bar, a new automotive propane fill station, and a large outdoor patio.

Niverville’s Communities in Bloom (NCIB) committee has created another long list of town beautification initiatives for this spring and summer. Some items on their to-do list are continuations of past projects, while new ones will take root this year.

The older a person gets, the harder it is to break out of established patterns and follow their dreams. Young people, though, often have the opportunity to pursue those dreams before the pressures of life bear down on them. So many young people in our communities are doing exactly that—following their passions by working hard to develop themselves as artists—and this month we’ll be highlighting some of these extraordinary youth.

Garrett Hawgood is, by his very nature, a lifesaver. In fact, the Niverville man has made saving lives one of his main objectives.
